AirPort Time Capsule 3TB
Apple's 802.11ac Time Capsule: a silent, fanless white tower that doubled as a 3 TB network drive, backing up every Mac on the network automatically through Time Machine.
It kept the same white tower shell as the AirPort Extreme; only the drive inside differed. When Apple retired the AirPort line in April 2018, the Time Capsule went with it — its last router.
The AirPort Time Capsule (5th generation, model A1460) was the 802.11ac revision introduced in 2013, sharing its tall white tower shell with the sixth-generation AirPort Extreme. Inside it hid a 3 TB server-grade hard drive, so every Mac on the network could back itself up automatically over Wi-Fi with Time Machine — no cables, no external drives. It used 3×3 MIMO with beamforming for up to 1.3 Gbps on the 5 GHz band, and its gigabit ports made it the network's switch as well as its router. Apple froze the design for five years and then discontinued the whole AirPort line in April 2018, ending its 19-year run in networking.
