The eMate 300 (March 1997) was Apple's low-cost Newton for schools — the only Newton device with a built-in keyboard, in a rugged translucent green clamshell case designed by Jony Ive. Running the Newton OS on a 25 MHz ARM 710a processor, it offered handwriting recognition, a touchscreen and up to 28 hours of battery life for US$799.
