The PowerBook 170 (October 1991) was the flagship of Apple's original PowerBook line and the first Apple laptop with a crisp active-matrix display. Alongside the 100 and 140, it established the modern laptop layout — palm rests, a trackball, and the keyboard pushed toward the back — that virtually every notebook has followed since.
