Apple Hi-Fi
Apple's take on a home stereo — an iPod dock with two tweeters and a subwoofer, announced in February 2006.
It flopped — discontinued after about 18 months, and Apple never revisited the home speaker market.
The Apple Hi-Fi, officially named the iPod Hi-Fi, was Apple's first and only home stereo speaker system, announced on February 28, 2006. Designed as a dock for any iPod, it paired two tweeters and a subwoofer with a 30-pin dock connector, a combined analog/optical auxiliary input, and the Apple Remote, powered by AC or six D-cell batteries. Despite praise for its sound quality, its US$349 price and limited features hurt sales, and Apple discontinued it in September 2007 without ever directly returning to the home speaker market.
