ImageWriter II
Apple's classic dot-matrix printer — nine pins and the unmistakable sound of a thousand classrooms.
Its 9-pin head used the same technology as the original ImageWriter — but roughly twice as fast.
The ImageWriter II was Apple's best-known dot-matrix printer, introduced in September 1985 at US$595. Its 9-pin C. Itoh printhead produced 160 x 144 dpi graphics and draft text at up to 250 characters per second, and an optional colour ribbon allowed multi-colour printing. Designed in the Snow White style, it was Apple's longest-produced peripheral, remaining in production until late 1996 and becoming the defining sound of classrooms and offices around the world.
