The Apple IIGS (stylized II GS) is the fifth and most powerful model of the Apple II family, released on September 15, 1986 — Apple's 10th anniversary. 'GS' stands for 'Graphics and Sound', reflecting its 4096-colour Super Hi-Res graphics and a 32-voice Ensoniq synthesizer chip, and it was the first computer from Apple with a colour graphical user interface.
