ROM 01 was the second firmware revision of the Apple IIGS, released in 1987. It fixed a notorious boot bug in the original ROM 00 firmware, which caused early machines to hang at startup unless a disk was already in the drive. The fix was vital — software developers, including Apple, dropped support for the original ROM, and most native IIGS software written from late 1987 onward (including GS/OS) required ROM 01 or later.
