The Power Mac G5 (June 2003) was Apple's first 64-bit desktop, marking the transition from the PowerPC G4 to the IBM-made PowerPC 970 'G5' processor. Its huge perforated aluminium tower, with a removable side panel and nine internal fans, was a radical departure from the translucent plastic of the G4 era. The dual 2.0 GHz model was the flagship of the original three-machine launch lineup.
